Article Processing Charge (APC)

1. Overview

Jurnal Fisika Unand (JFU) is a peer-reviewed, open-access scholarly journal committed to the dissemination of original, scientifically sound research in classical and modern physics and related interdisciplinary fields.

JFU seeks to maintain a transparent, fair, and accessible publication process by clearly communicating all applicable publication charges to prospective authors.

The journal does not charge fees for manuscript submission or peer review. An Article Processing Charge (APC) applies only to manuscripts that have successfully completed the editorial and peer-review process and have been formally accepted for publication.

The APC contributes to publication-related services necessary to support the dissemination and integrity of published scholarly articles.

2. Publication Fee Structure

The following fee schedule applies to manuscripts submitted to JFU:

Fee Category Amount
Manuscript Submission Fee IDR 0 (Free)
Peer-Review Fee IDR 0 (Free)
Article Processing Charge (APC) IDR 1,000,000 per accepted article
Online Access to Published Articles Free

Authors are not required to make any payment when submitting a manuscript or while the manuscript is undergoing editorial evaluation and peer review.

The APC becomes applicable only after the manuscript has been formally accepted for publication.

JFU does not guarantee manuscript acceptance in exchange for payment.

3. What Does the APC Cover?

The APC contributes to the costs of publishing accepted manuscripts, including the following services:

3.1. Digital Object Identifier (DOI) Registration

JFU registers a Digital Object Identifier (DOI) for each published article to support persistent identification, reliable citation, and scholarly discoverability.

3.2. Manuscript Similarity Checking

JFU uses Turnitin to assist in identifying textual overlap and supporting editorial assessment of academic integrity.

Similarity-checking results are evaluated in context. A similarity percentage alone does not establish plagiarism or determine the outcome of a manuscript.

The APC is a publication-related charge and does not constitute payment for favorable peer-review reports, editorial acceptance, or preferential publication treatment.

4. APC Waivers and Discounts

JFU recognizes that publication charges may present financial difficulties for some authors.

To support equitable participation in scholarly publishing, JFU offers eligible corresponding authors experiencing financial hardship an APC waiver or discount of up to 50% of the standard charge.

4.1. Eligibility

Waiver or discount requests may be considered for corresponding authors who demonstrate financial hardship.

Approval is subject to the journal's assessment of the request.

4.2. Application Procedure

Authors seeking an APC waiver or discount must:

  1. Submit a formal request by email to the JFU Editorial Office.

  2. Submit the request within two calendar days after manuscript submission.

  3. Include the manuscript title, submission identification number (if available), and a brief explanation of the financial circumstances supporting the request.

  4. Await the journal's decision regarding the applicable reduction.

Important: Waiver or discount requests submitted after manuscript acceptance will not be accepted.

Authors are therefore strongly encouraged to request financial assistance at the beginning of the submission process.

4.3. Amount of Reduction

The maximum published reduction is 50% of the standard APC.

For a manuscript subject to the standard APC of IDR 1,000,000, a full 50% discount would reduce the amount payable to IDR 500,000.

A discount is not automatic and must be approved by the journal.

4.4. Editorial Independence

Requests for APC waivers or discounts are handled independently of scientific assessment.

An author's financial circumstances, ability to pay, or request for financial assistance must not influence manuscript screening, reviewer selection, peer-review recommendations, or editorial decisions.

5. When Is the APC Payable?

The APC is payable only after a manuscript has been formally accepted for publication.

Authors are not required to pay the APC to initiate peer review or obtain an editorial decision.

Following acceptance, the journal will communicate the applicable payment instructions through its authorized editorial or administrative channels.

Authors should use only payment instructions officially issued or confirmed by JFU.

No payment should be made to an unofficial personal account or through an unverified payment request.

6. Editorial Independence and Fairness

JFU maintains a clear separation between financial administration and academic editorial decision-making.

All submitted manuscripts are evaluated according to:

  • Relevance to the journal's aims and scope.

  • Originality and scientific contribution.

  • Methodological and analytical soundness.

  • Reliability and transparency of reported results.

  • Compliance with publication ethics and research integrity requirements.

  • Findings from the journal's double-anonymous peer-review process.

The payment of an APC does not guarantee acceptance, accelerated peer review, preferential editorial treatment, or publication of a manuscript that does not meet JFU's scholarly standards.

Editors and reviewers must not be influenced by an author's payment status or financial circumstances.

7. Open Access and Reader Charges

JFU operates under an open-access publishing model.

All published articles are freely accessible online without subscription charges or reader access fees.

Authors retain copyright ownership of their published articles.

JFU publishes articles under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International License (CC BY-NC 4.0).

8. Refunds and Exceptional Circumstances

Refund arrangements: [INSERT THE JOURNAL'S APPROVED REFUND OR NON-REFUND POLICY.]

JFU will communicate the applicable terms of payment and any approved refund arrangements to authors before payment is requested.

Any dispute regarding an APC payment should be directed to the journal's authorized editorial or administrative contact.

The journal will assess such matters in accordance with its published fee arrangements and applicable institutional requirements.

9. Transparency of Publication Charges

JFU is committed to making publication charges visible and understandable before authors submit their manuscripts.

The journal will publish applicable APC amounts, waiver arrangements, and material changes to its fee policy on its official website.

Any change to the APC schedule should include an effective date and clearly identify which manuscripts are subject to the revised charges.

The APC policy should be read together with JFU's Business Model and Revenue Sources Policy, which explains the journal's broader financial and operational arrangements.
