Author Guidelines

1. Submission of manuscripts

Jurnal Fisika Unand (JFU) accepts original research articles written in Bahasa Indonesia or English. Manuscripts should be submitted electronically through the JFU online submission system:

JFU Online Submission System

Authors are strongly encouraged to use the JFU Manuscript Template provided by the journal. If authors experience difficulties with the online submission system, they may contact the Editorial Office at jfu@sci.unand.ac.id.

The Editorial Office will conduct an initial editorial screening. The Editor will determine within approximately 14 days whether the manuscript is suitable for further consideration and peer review.

By submitting a manuscript, the corresponding author confirms that:

  • All authors have read and approved the submitted manuscript;
  • The manuscript represents the original work of the authors;
  • all sources and contributions have been appropriately acknowledged;
  • the manuscript, or substantially similar content, has not been published elsewhere;
  • The manuscript is not under consideration for publication in another journal; and
  • All authors agree to the submission and publication of the manuscript.

Revisions

Manuscripts may be returned to authors for revision based on editorial or reviewer comments. Authors are given a maximum of three weeks from the date of receiving the revision request to submit the revised manuscript through the online submission system.

Authors should carefully address all reviewer comments and indicate the changes made in the revised manuscript and/or response to reviewers.

Failure to submit a revision within the specified period may result in the manuscript being considered withdrawn or rejected.

Resubmission

A rejected manuscript may be resubmitted only when substantial improvements have been made. A resubmitted manuscript will be treated as a new submission and will undergo the standard editorial screening and peer-review process.

2. Manuscript File and Page Requirements

File Format

  • Manuscripts must be prepared using Microsoft Word (.docx).
  • The manuscript must use A4 paper size (210 × 297 mm).
  • The complete manuscript must not exceed 7 pages, including the title, abstract, main text, tables, figures, declarations, and references.
  • Authors must use the official JFU Manuscript Template.
  • Authors should not manually modify the template layout, margins, styles, spacing, or other formatting settings.
  • Do not insert unnecessary blank lines between paragraphs or sections.

Single Manuscript File

The entire manuscript must be submitted as one Microsoft Word file, containing:

  1. Title;
  2. Authors and affiliations;
  3. Abstract and keywords in English and Bahasa Indonesia;
  4. Main text;
  5. Tables and figures;
  6. Acknowledgments;
  7. Conflict of Interest;
  8. Funding Statement;
  9. Declaration of Generative AI and AI-Assisted Technologies, when applicable; and
  10. References.

Running Header

A running header must appear beginning on page 2.

  • Left side: author name(s)
    • One author: R. Refrizon
    • Two authors: N. Gusriyani & M. Evita
    • Three or more authors: S. N. Khalisha et al. for English manuscripts or S. N. Khalisha dkk. for manuscripts in Bahasa Indonesia.
  • Right side: abbreviated manuscript title in italics, 9 pt.
  • A thin bottom border should be applied to the header.

2. Manuscript Organization

Manuscripts may be written in Bahasa Indonesia or English.

The manuscript should follow the structure below.

Article Template and Article Example

4. Title, Authors, and Affiliations

Title

The title should be:

  • concise, specific, and informative;
  • no more than 20 words;
  • written in Title Case;
  • formatted in 14 pt bold and centered; and
  • prepared using the 1. Judul style in the JFU template.

Avoid unnecessary abbreviations, formulas, and overly broad expressions in the title.

Authors

Author names must be written in full without academic, professional, or honorary titles.

Use superscript numbers to indicate different institutional affiliations, for example:

Author Name¹, Author Name²

Affiliations should be written in full and formatted according to the JFU template.

Corresponding Author

The corresponding author must be identified by an asterisk (*) after the author's name. The corresponding author's full name and e-mail address must be provided in the designated area of the manuscript template.

5. Abstract and Keywords

Abstract

Each manuscript must contain an English Abstract and an Indonesian Abstrak, regardless of the language of the main manuscript.

The abstract must:

  • be written as one paragraph;
  • contain no more than 250 words;
  • clearly describe the research background or purpose, methods, key results, and conclusions;
  • be understandable as a standalone text; and
  • contain no mathematical equations, citations, tables, or figures.

Keywords

Provide 3–5 keywords immediately below the corresponding abstract.

Keywords must:

  • be arranged in alphabetical order;
  • be written in lowercase, except for proper nouns; and
  • Use the same terms and order in both English and Bahasa Indonesia as closely as linguistically appropriate.

6. Headings and Paragraphs

Main Headings

Main sections must be numbered using Roman numerals and written in uppercase and bold.

Examples:

For English manuscripts:

Use the designated Heading 1 style provided in the JFU template.

Subheadings

Subsections may be used when necessary and should follow the numbering system provided in the template, for example:

1.1 Subsection
1.1.1 Sub-subsection

Body Text

Use the designated 63. Isi style for normal paragraphs.

Each paragraph should develop a coherent idea and normally consist of several logically connected sentences. Avoid one-sentence paragraphs unless necessary.

When text continues immediately after an equation, figure, or table, use the designated 65. Isi Lanjutan style.

7. Mathematical Equations

All mathematical equations must be created using the Microsoft Word Equation Editor:

Insert → Equation or Alt + =

Equations must:

  • Use the Professional format;
  • not be inserted as images or plain text;
  • be centered;
  • have sequential equation numbers in parentheses;
  • place the equation number at the right side of the same line; and
  • Use appropriate mathematical notation consistently.

Variables and mathematical quantities should be formatted according to standard mathematical conventions.

For example:

ρ, g, Vₓ, Kₘ, I₀

Do not manually construct equations using spaces, tabs, or ordinary text characters.

8. Figures

Figures may be submitted as appropriate image formats and must be inserted directly into the manuscript.

Authors must ensure that:

  • each figure is cited in the text;
  • figures are placed as close as possible to their first citation;
  • The text wrapping option is set to In Line with Text;
  • figures are centered;
  • Figure numbers and captions are clearly provided;
  • figures are sufficiently clear for publication, and
  • unnecessary borders, backgrounds, or decorative elements are avoided.

Multipart figures should be labeled consistently, for example:

Figure 1(a) and Figure 1(b)

Figure captions should be placed below the figure.

Figure titles and labels should not be placed inside tables

9. Tables

Tables must be inserted directly into the manuscript and cited in the text.

Authors should:

  • Use concise and informative table titles;
  • Place the table title above the table;
  • Use bold formatting for column headings;
  • Use 10 pt Times New Roman for table contents;
  • avoid vertical lines in tables;
  • ensure that all abbreviations are explained where necessary; and
  • Use consistent decimal notation throughout the manuscript.

For manuscripts written in Bahasa Indonesia, decimal numbers should use a comma (,) as the decimal separator.

For English manuscripts, use a period (.) as the decimal separator.

10. Acknowledgments and Declarations

The following statements are required where applicable.

Acknowledgments

The Acknowledgments section should identify individuals, institutions, facilities, or other non-author contributors who provided meaningful assistance to the research.

If there is nothing to acknowledge, use:

English: “None.”
Bahasa Indonesia: “Tidak ada.”

Conflict of Interest

All manuscripts must include a Conflict of Interest statement.

Example:

English:
“The authors declare no conflict of interest.”

Bahasa Indonesia:
“Penulis menyatakan bahwa tidak terdapat konflik kepentingan.”

If a conflict exists, it must be disclosed clearly.

Funding Statement

Authors must disclose all financial support received for the research, including grant numbers when applicable.

Examples:

English:
“This research received no specific funding.”

Bahasa Indonesia:
“Penelitian ini tidak menerima pendanaan khusus.”

If funding was received, authors should identify the funding institution and grant number where applicable.

Declaration of Generative AI and AI-Assisted Technologies

Authors must disclose the use of generative AI or AI-assisted technologies during manuscript preparation when such tools were used.

The declaration should identify:

  1. the name of the AI tool/service;
  2. the version, when available; and
  3. the specific purpose for which it was used.

Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, integrity, and final content of the manuscript.

Example:

English:
“During the preparation of this manuscript, the authors used [Tool Name and Version] for [specific purpose]. After using the tool, the authors reviewed and edited the content as necessary and take full responsibility for the content of the publication.”

Bahasa Indonesia:
“Dalam penyusunan naskah ini, penulis menggunakan [Nama dan Versi Alat] untuk [tujuan penggunaan secara spesifik]. Setelah menggunakan alat tersebut, penulis meninjau dan menyunting isi naskah sesuai kebutuhan serta bertanggung jawab penuh atas isi publikasi.”

If no generative AI or AI-assisted technology was used, authors may state:

English:
“No generative AI or AI-assisted technologies were used in the preparation of this manuscript.”

Bahasa Indonesia:
“Tidak ada teknologi AI generatif atau teknologi berbantuan AI yang digunakan dalam penyusunan naskah ini.”

11. Nomenclature, Units, Abbreviations, and Symbols

Nomenclature

Chemical, biochemical, biological, and genetic nomenclature should follow internationally recognized standards appropriate to the relevant scientific field. Where applicable, authors should follow the standards of the American Society for Microbiology (ASM).

Abbreviations

All abbreviations must be defined at their first occurrence in the manuscript.

For example:

“computed tomography (CT)”

After the first definition, use the abbreviation consistently and do not redefine it.

Spelling

English manuscripts should use American English spelling consistently.

Examples include:

  • labeling
  • sulfur
  • nonspecific
  • antiviral

Units

Use the International System of Units (SI) wherever applicable.

Division Notation

Use a forward slash for rates and compound units, for example:

g/mL

rather than:

g mL⁻¹

Subscripts and Superscripts

Use appropriate mathematical notation for subscripts and superscripts. Descriptive subscripts should be formatted consistently and should not be italicized when they function as labels rather than mathematical variables.

Centrifugal Force

When reporting centrifugation conditions, express centrifugal force as × g rather than rpm whenever possible.

Foreign and Biochemical Terms

Foreign terms and names of bioproducts should follow accepted scientific conventions. For example, names such as natto and kimchi should be written in lowercase and italicized when used as foreign terms.

12. References and Citations

JFU uses the APA 7th Edition citation and reference style.

Authors are strongly encouraged to use reference management software such as Mendeley, Zotero, or EndNote to ensure consistency between in-text citations and the reference list.

Minimum References

Each manuscript should contain at least 15 references.

Authors should ensure that:

  • at least 80% of the references are primary sources, particularly peer-reviewed journal articles and conference proceedings;
  • at least 50% of the references were published within the last 10 years (currently 2017–2026); and
  • References are directly relevant to the research.

References Not Accepted

The following should not be included as references unless formally published and appropriate for scholarly citation:

  • unpublished data;
  • personal communications;
  • manuscripts in preparation;
  • manuscripts submitted but not yet published;
  • pamphlet abstracts; and
  • other non-peer-reviewed materials.

In-text Citation

Examples for manuscripts in Bahasa Indonesia:

  • One author: (Nama, 2022) or Nama (2022)
  • Two authors: (Syifa & Oktamuliani, 2023) or Syifa dan Oktamuliani (2023)
  • Three or more authors: (Oktamuliani dkk., 2019) or Oktamuliani dkk. (2019)

For English manuscripts:

  • One author: (Name, 2022) or Name (2022)
  • Two authors: (Syifa & Oktamuliani, 2023) or Syifa and Oktamuliani (2023)
  • Three or more authors: (Oktamuliani et al., 2019) or Oktamuliani et al. (2019)

Authors must ensure that every work cited in the manuscript appears in the reference list and that every reference listed is cited in the manuscript
