Measurement  of the physical properties of soil on slpes where landslide have occurred and slopes that are not speculated to have occurred  in Nagari Koto Alam have been carried out using the ASTM method. Soil sampels were taken from  the top, middle, and bottom slopes with a depth of 30 cm and 75 cm from the slope surface. The result of the measurement of physical properties of the soil show that the soil types of the four slopes are dominated by clay and sandy clay, with a range of uniformity coefficient values from 2.22 to 7.69, gradiation coefficient values ranging from  0.54 to 1.44, specific gravity values ranging from 2.58 to 2.70, and saturated soil moisture content in the range 34.95 % to 43.75%. Slopes are clay type and have a uniformity coefficient value of less than six, and  gradient coefficient less than  one, plus a saturated water content value greater than 40% has a great potential for landslides. One of the four test slopes has the potential for landslides to occur at a depth of 75 cm and the other three slopes have a potential depth of 75 cm from the slope surface.
