Plagiarism Policy
Jurnal Fisika Unand (JFU) is committed to maintaining the highest standards of academic integrity and ensuring that all published content is original and free from plagiarism. We take plagiarism seriously and use Turnitin as our plagiarism detection tool to assess the originality of all submitted manuscripts.
- Definition of Plagiarism
Plagiarism is defined as the use of another author's words, ideas, or data without proper acknowledgment, presenting them as one’s own. This includes: - Direct copying of text or data from another source without proper citation.
- Rephrasing another author's ideas or text without proper attribution.
- Using significant portions of another work without acknowledgment or permission.
- JFU considers both self-plagiarism (reusing parts of the author's own previously published work without citation) and traditional plagiarism as unethical behavior.
- Plagiarism Detection with Turnitin
All submitted manuscripts are screened for plagiarism using Turnitin before entering the peer review process. Turnitin compares the submitted text against a vast database of academic works, web pages, and other publications to detect potential similarities. - Maximum Similarity Index
The maximum allowable similarity index for manuscripts submitted to JFU is 30%. This means that if a manuscript is found to have more than 30% similarity to existing works, it will be automatically rejected without proceeding to peer review. - Handling of Manuscripts Exceeding the Similarity Threshold
- Immediate Rejection: If a manuscript has a similarity index greater than 30%, the submission will be rejected, and the authors will be informed of the reason.
- Resubmission: Authors are allowed to revise and resubmit their manuscript if they address the plagiarism issues. The resubmitted manuscript will be treated as a new submission and will be rechecked for plagiarism.
- Consequences of Plagiarism
In cases where plagiarism is detected: - Manuscripts found to contain plagiarized content will be immediately rejected.
- If plagiarism is discovered after publication, the article may be retracted, and appropriate actions will be taken in line with COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics) guidelines.
- JFU reserves the right to notify the authors’ institution(s) about cases of significant plagiarism, especially if it is recurrent or severe.
- Author Responsibilities
Authors are responsible for ensuring that their manuscript is original and that any work or ideas of others are properly cited. Authors should be aware of the journal's plagiarism policy and ensure their submission complies with it before submitting to JFU.
