An Arduino Uno based mouse (Mus musculus) counter has been designed. This counter device consists of a laser diode as a light source and a photodiode as a light detector placed in a closed hexagonal housing with each side 10 cm long, 3 cm wide and 3 cm high. The digital data from the photodiode is processed by the microcontroller and the count results are displayed on the LCD. The testing phase of this device starts from testing the photodiode sensor and testing the counter device. The test results showed that the device was working properly, where the best test was on mice with a body weight of 28 g which had a 0% percent error before being influenced by psychoactive substances and mice with a body weight of 26 g had a percentage error of 1.4% after being influenced by psychoactive substances. The largest percentage error was in mice who weigh 27 g, namely 2.30% before being influenced by psychoactive substances and and 1.52% percent error after being influenced by psychoactive substances. This proves that the activity of mice decreased after being given psychoactive substances.
