Synthesis of NiFe2O4 nanoparticles from iron sand using coprecipitation method has been done. Iron sand was obtained from Surian, Solok Regency. The extracted iron sand was dissolved in HCl. The acquired solution was mixed NiCl2 and NH4OH, to produce ferrite nickel deposits (NiFe2O4). The NH4OH concentration was varied 3 M, 5 M and 10 M. Characterization of phase and size of the iron sand and NiFe2O4 particle was performed using XRD (X-Ray Diffractometer). Morphology and particle size of NiFe2O4 were characteristic using SEM (scanning electron microscope). Magnetic susceptibility of NiFe2O4 was measured using Bartington MS2 Magnetic Susceptibility Meter. XRD results indicate that the iron sand diffraction pattern corresponds to Fe3O4 diffraction pattern (82.55%). NiFe2O4 crystal size of sample prepared using NH4OH 3M, 5M and 10M are respectively 27 nm; 27 nm; 20 nm. SEM results indicate that the average diameters of NiFe2O4 particle are 60 nm; 41 nm; 35 nm. Susceptibility of NiFe2O4 samples for variation NH4OH 3M, 5M and 10M are 444.8×10-8m3kg-1; 215.6×10-8m3kg-1; 204.2×10-8m3kg-1, respectively. Concentration variations triggering the size of the crystal and particles.
