Abstract
Synthesis of zeolites from bottom ash by alkali melting hydrothermal method have been done. Melting temperature was 550 0C, 750 0C and 950 0C with a ratio of bottom ash: NaOH is 1: 1.2 g. Samples of bottom ash which had been merged with NaOH then heated through a hydrothermal process with 2 kinds of crystallization medium that are distilled water and NaAlO2. Synthesized zeolite samples were then washed with distilled water until pH 9-10. The characterization includes functional groups using FT-IR, surface morphology with SEM, and type of material using XRD, and conductivity measurements. For the purposes of conductivity measurement, the samples compacted to form pellets with a mass of 0.3 g. FT-IR results showed that there are fingerprints for bond stretching of SiO and AlO and Double Ring. X-ray diffraction (XRD) shows that the zeolites which are synthesized by the addition of distilled water is Na-type zeolite. While the zeolites which are synthesized by the addition of NaAlO2 produce Na-A, P and Unnamed zeolite types. Conductivity test using LCR meter showed that range of the sample conductivity is from 0.0407 mS/m to 0.3814 mS/m. Zeolite with the highest conductivity (0.3814 mS/m) were obtained from melting temperature of 550 0C and with NaAlO2 as crystallization medium.
