Abstract

ABSTRACT

A research to determine magnetic susceptibility of magnetic minerals of remaining irond sand of gold panning on four rivers (Ombilin, Silokek, Sukam and Palangki) at District Sijunjung, West Sumatera, has been conducted. The magnetic susceptibility of samples were measured by using Bartington MS2 Magnetic suscebtibility meter with MS2B dual frequency sensor, on fifteen different directions. The result show that the susceptibility values of the samples ranges from 1.0294 × 10-4 m3/kg to 1.1415 × 10-4 m3/kg with the average value of 1.1011 × 10-4 m3/kg and the variation coefficient is 4.7%. The value shows that magnetic minerals of iron sand of remaining irond sand of gold panning on the four locations contains relatively uniform magnetic mineral types.

Keywords : susceptibility, anisotropy, magnetic minerals, and iron sand.
